Katsina Irrigation Farmers Demand Dams
Irrigation farmers in
Musawa Local Government Area of Katsina State have appealed to the state government to construct a dam in the area.
Alhaji Salisu Lema-Jikamshi, a renowned farmer in the area, made the appeal in Masawa, Katsina State in an interview with newsmen.
He said that if constructed, the dam would enhance irrigation farming and provide job opportunities for youths in the area.
Lema-Jikamshi, who is also Chairman, Katsina state Irrigation Farmers Association, said involvement in irrigation farming would prevent youths from travelling outside the state in search of jobs.
He said that various food items like tubers, vegetables and grains were produced in the area through irrigation farming, as the soil was fertile for the cultivation of different types of crops.
He commended Governor Ibrahim Shema for fulfilling his campaign promise to construct a hospital in Jikamashi town.
He urged the people to re-elect Shema and other PDP candidates in the April elections.
Lema-Jikamshi also appealed to the authorities to facilitate the establishment of a tomato processing plant in the area.
Speaking along the same vein, Alhaji Shafi’u Nabinbi, another farmer in the area, said involvement in irrigation farming had prevented several youths in the area from engaging in social vices.
