Enugu Set To Develop Eco-tourism Sites
Enugu State government has said that it will encourage tourism in the state by improving the hospitality industry and developing ecotourism sites and encouraging cultural tourism.
Chief Joe Mamel, the Commissioner for Culture and Tourism told newsmen yesterday in Enugu that the improvement would attract foreign investors to the state.
According to him, tourism is a source of wealth and many countries have their economies based on it.
“Tourism is a source of wealth; it is an industry on its own. Most countries have their economies based on tourism and they have thrived.
“So we are looking to improving our hotel industries, developing our ecotourism sites both the conference tourism and the cultural tourism.’’
The commissioner said he was into discussion with all the hospitality centres in the state to have a tour guidebook to enable visitors to plan and enjoy their itinerary.
“We are planning a tourism stand at the Enugu International Airport so that visitors can come and see all the hospitality industries in the state.’’
Mamel said paucity of funds was a challenge to the ministry and appealed to private investors to partner with it in the venture.
