Team Rivers Will Win -Tele Ikuru
Rivers State Deputy Governor and Chairman, Local Organising Committee(LOC) of the 17th National Sports Festival, Engr. Tele Ikuru, has expressed confidence that Rivers State will emerge overall champions at the end of the festival.
Speaking to reporters at the Civic Centre yesterday while watching the Abula traditional sport, in which Team Rivers qualified for the semi finals in the male/female categories Engr Ikuru said he was impressed with the keen contest for medals by all athletes, which indicated the true spirit of sportmanship.
Meanwhile, the Secretary of the Traditional Sports Federation of Nigeria, Mr
Femi Ajao has said Kokowa which is rated as the biggest sports contest in traditional sports will commence on Monday.
He said Kokowa is so rated because it is adopted by ECOWAS and athletes chosen from the festival will represent Nigeria in the Gambia in July at the ECOWAS Championship and another competition in Niger by October.
