Amaechi Blames Criminality On Poor Law Enforcement

ernor, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi says the inability of successive administrations to enforce existing laws was responsible for the increase in criminal activities in the society.

Governor Amaechi stated this while delivering a keynote address at the opening ceremony of the 44th Annual Conference of Nigerian Association of Law Teachers held at New High Court Complex Port Harcourt last Monday.

He explained that lack of enforcement of the nation’s laws by the government created room for the harassment and extortion going on in the society stressing that such activities are not only peculiar in the state but also the nation at large.

The governor, who was represented at the occasion by the Secretary to the State Government, Mr. George Feyii, stressed the need for the enforcement of laws immediately they were enacted in order to save the society.

According to him, it takes a lot of commitment and encouragement to enforce the laws especially in a society like Nigeria adding that in doing that the quality of the people who interpret the law needs to be considered.

Describing  his administration as a product the judiciary, the governor noted that the judiciary has helped in stabilising the nation’s democracy.

The State Chief Executive further stated that important roles played by the judiciary in the development of the country cannot be over emphasised assuring that the state government was committed in the training and retraining of the judges in the state in order to keep them fit to the task of their profession.

He described the theme of the conference “Law, Peace and Development as timely and employed members of the judiciary to pay more attention in the alternative to peace resolution mechanism (APRM) as one of the ways of achieving peace and development in the society.

The Chief Judge of the State who also served as the chairman of the occasion, Justice Iche Ndu said the attainment of the rule of law, peace and development were objectives of any government adding that “we need no advocacy to know and realise the place of law, peace and development in the society”.

Justice Ndu explained that it is the duty of citizens and government to obey the law, adding that the legal profession has the onerous task to ensure that the rule of law was observed.

Also speaking, the President, Customary Court of Appeal, Rivers State, Justice P.N.C. Agumagu, stated that without good laws and the enthronement of the rule of law, there would be no peace in the society.

He charged the law teachers to dwell on the theme of the conference so as to profer suggestions that would transform and propel Nigeria to greater heights.

HoS Hails Fubara Over Provision of Accommodation for Permanent Secretaries

The Head of Service (HoS) of Rivers State, Dr. Mrs. Inyingi S. I. Brown, has commended Governor Sir Siminalayi Fubara, GSSRS, for approving befitting accommodation for Permanent Secretaries in the state.
This commendation was contained in a press release made available to newsmen in Port Harcourt.
According to the Head of Service, Governor Fubara has continued to demonstrate uncommon commitment to the welfare of civil servants in Rivers State, stressing that such gestures underscore his people-oriented leadership style. She urged civil servants across the state to remain supportive of the governor’s administration in order to sustain good governance and effective public service delivery.
Speaking on behalf of the Body of Permanent Secretaries, Dr. Brown congratulated Governor Fubara on the occasion of his 51st birthday, describing him as “a Governor who leads by serving.”
She further praised the governor’s service-driven and people-centred leadership approach, noting that it has significantly contributed to institutional stability and improved efficiency within the state’s public service. Special appreciation was expressed for the approval of a befitting accommodation complex for Permanent Secretaries, which she said reflects the governor’s commitment to staff welfare and enhanced productivity.
As part of activities to mark the governor’s birthday, the Body of Permanent Secretaries announced the sponsorship of 329 Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) forms for indigent students across the state.
A breakdown of the initiative shows that 319 forms will be distributed across the 319 political wards in Rivers State, while five forms are allocated to non-indigenes and five forms to persons living with disabilities.

The Body of Permanent Secretaries wished Governor Fubara continued good health, divine wisdom, and greater accomplishments in his service to the people of Rivers State.

Allegation of Disrespect to President Tinubu Unfounded — Rivers Government
