Foundation Trains 725 On Skills In Rivers
A non-governmental organization labeled Creative Foundation says it has trained about 725 persons in Rivers State on different skills ranging from catering, driving, hat and bead making, fish and snail farming and web design.
Director of the organization, Rev. Edward Bonkat made the disclosure last Sunday during a skills graduation held in Foundation Faith Church in Port Harcourt.
Rev. Bonkat stated that the body was poised to fill the huge gap created by economic down turn and unemployment by providing business skills for the teeming youths and adults in the country.
Against the backdrop of the harsh economic climate, Rev. Bonkat stated there was need for youths to be independent, especially in creating their own businesses in order to make a living.
The Creative Foundation Director disclosed that over the years the body has been crippled by poor funding and facilities for conducting its training, but noted that despite the challenges the foundation has remained resilient in achieving its aims and objectives.
He called on both government and philanthropists to come to the rescue of the organization stating that it plans to establish a skills acquisition centre in the state and other parts of the country to boost small scale business enterprises.
Rev. Bonkat while enjoining the graduands to apply the skills they have learnt stressed that opportunities are abound to market their talents.
Also speaking, Resident Pastor of the Foundation Faith Church, Borokiri, Rev. Oliver Udioku, urged the graduands to give their skills a professional touch, in order to attract patronage.
In his words, “it is good to be prepared before opportunity comes, so that opportunities will not mis you”.
