CPC Promises Five Million New Jobs In Four Years
The Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) says it would embark on a new economic policy that would create over five million jobs for unemployed Nigerians within four years in office, if voted into power come April 16, 2011 presidential election.
CPC’s Vice Presidential candidate, Pastor Tunde Bakare made the promise yesterday, while unveiling the party’s manifestos in a meeting tagged: CPC Town Hall Meeting with South-South” in Port Harcourt.
“If you Nigerians elect Gen Mohammadu Buhari of CPC as the next president of this country, as I am speaking to you, we have drawn the modality already to work out an economic policy to create within four years,a minimum of two million direct jobs and three million indirect jobs for Nigerians”, ‘Bakare told party supporters, adding that the move would be achieved without borrowing or touching the foreign reserve.
Bakare said that CPC government would also build 3000km roads across the country for easy transportation of goods and services even as it would go a long way to put an end to the rising spate of road accidents.
According to him the party has concluded with experts to have a “10 lane service trunk”, that would accommodate electricity cableline, oil pipeline, gaslines, telephone lines among others, instead of exposing them to endanger people in the society.
The CPC Vice Presidential candidate also reflected on the state of the nation’s economy and said there was need to reduce taxation rate as well as prune down salaries of public office holders including members of the National Assembly.
Earlier, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai the chairman of the occasion said leadership in Nigeria should not be compromised on the alter of religion, ethnicity and friendship.
He said, that Nigeria needs a competent and credible leadership like the duo of Buhari and Pastor Bakare to bring effective changes in the nation’s system.
El-Rufai assured Nigerians that Buhari would win the presidential elections and called South-South people to support CPC achieve its economic policy.

RSG INAUGURATES ARMED FORCES REMEMBRANCE DAY COMMITTEE
The Rivers State Government has inaugurated a Central Planning Committee to organize the celebration of the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day (AFRD) in the State.
The committee was formally inaugurated by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Benibo Anabraba in Port Harcourt, last Thursday.
Dr Anabraba who also serves as Chairman of the Committee
highlighted the State Government’s deep appreciation for the sacrifices of Nigeria’s fallen heroes who laid down their lives for the nation’s peace and unity.
“These heroes have given their lives for the security and peace of our nation and deserve to be celebrated. The Armed Forces Remembrance Day is an opportunity to show our gratitude for their sacrifice,” he said.
Dr. Anabraba further extended recognition to all Security Agencies in the State, emphasizing the importance of the event in appreciating their contributions to national security and sovereignty.
The annual Armed Forces Remembrance Day, observed on January 15 across the country is dedicated to remember Nigeria’s departed soldiers and honouring the nation’s veterans.
