Why Media Practitioners Seek Divine Direction – Commissioner
The Rivers State Commissioner for Information and Communications, Mrs. Ibim Semenitari says the pivotal role of the media in nation building makes it imperative for practitioners to seek the direction of God in discharge of their statutory duties.
Mrs. Semenitari, who stated this in a brief remark at the thanksgiving service of the state Ministry of Information and its parastatals at St. Nicholas (Ang) Church, Woji Deanery, said the delicate nature of the job of the media practitioners cannot be wished away.
The commissioner reflected on the activities of the Information Ministry and its parastatals in the last one year, and concluded that there was every reason for all to thank God for leading them thus far.
She explained that management and staff of the ministry was in the church to appreciate God’s mercies upon their lives and to offer themselves to the creator for a new direction for this year.
Prior to her brief remark, Mrs. Semenitari had called for a minute silence in honour of all the souls lost in last Saturday’s PDP rally tragedy, and said government would take responsibility of all the victims including taking care of the hospital bills of others in the hospitals.
She later presented a sound mixer to the church as part of the contributions of the state media to the propagation of the gospel in the church.
Preaching a sermon at the service, the Vicar of the Church, Venerable Alex Usifoh charged media practitioners to be fruitful in their daily life, explaining that to be fruitful is to live and promote those things that edify Christ.
Ven Usifoh, who drew his message text from John 15: 1-15 said “we can say you are fruitful when we can see Christ in you, “regretting that most individuals including the media practitioners fall prey to the challenges of life.
The archdeacon, therefore, charged the media practitioners to stand firm to challenges of life even as he advised them to shun those things that would bring them to disrepute.
He also spoke of the need for all to abide in the words of God, saying that the consequence of those not connected to God is failure and eternal condemnation.
Highpoint of the thanksgiving service was prayers for the nation, leaders and the media in the task of quality service delivery.
