Repentant Militants Alert On Violence Plot In Rivers
A group of repentant militants in Rivers have raised alarm over alleged plot by some persons to distabilise the peace in the state.
The repentant youths who embraced the federal government amnesty programme under the name, EBI Group, in a statement in Port Harcourt, Wednesday alleged that some politicians in the state have deployed the services of some unrepentant youths to commence unprovoked attacks on innocent members of the public.
Signed by the spokesman and secretary of the group, Messrs Tomi Romeo and Mark Aduba, the EBI group said its Commander, Mr Amonia Francis was in the early hours of December 26 around the Diobu area of Port Harcourt shot in the head by a group known as the Bloodstars.
According to the statement the attack which had left its commander in a state of coma was capable of resurrecting the dead issue of violence in the state.
“We see the attack as needless, because nothing is happening again, we have all returned our arms and have sincerely embraced the amnesty offer by government, we see the attack that some persons want to destabilise the peace that the current government has achieved, “the group said and called on the security agencies to arrest and bring to book those behind this act. It said nobody has the monopoly to carry out violence even as it expressed concern that this attack is coming at a time when the election is close.”
The group also called on the amnesty committee in Rivers to come to the aid of the victim by facilitating his treatment.
“The man who was attacked enjoys the amnesty and a very law abiding citizen, we are propelled to call on the government and the public to come to his aid due to the training we have received in the cause of the amnesty programme.
“We will not want to be forced to carry arms again, we urge those involved in this act to please chain their mad dogs because everybody has his own mad dogs” the group added.
