MTN Street Soccer Registration Begins, ’Morrow
The Lagos State Commissioner for Sports and Social Development, Ademola Adeniji-Adele, has said that registration of clubs for Season Four of MTN/Lagos Street Soccer will begin tomorrow.
Adeniji-Adele, told newsmen in Lagos that the sale of registration forms to interested clubs across the state would end on the 25th of February.
He said the Main Organising Committee (MOC) for the tournament met recently and agreed that the competition would kick off from March 5 to March 25.
He explained that the competition which would start at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere, was expected to end between May 7 and May 22 at the Campos Mini Stadium, Lagos Island.
“We have done the necessary ground work to ensure a successful championship, the MOC is set to organise a hitch-free competition just as the three previous editions.
“But I will like to warn that there will be no extension for clubs’ registration.
“Any club willing to participate in the championship is expected to register its team within the prescribed date,’’ Adeniji-Adele said.
He commended the sponsors, MTN Nigeria, for keeping the competition going for four years.
“This gesture shows that they shared in Gov. Babatunde Fashola’s aspiration for youth empowerment through participation in sports.
“To ensure wide participation of youths, the state has concluded plans to subsidise the registration fee of N5, 000 with N2, 500.
“Also, other mouth-watering prizes await the winners as well as foreign trips,’’ Adeniji-Adele said.
The winner of the 2010 edition of the championship received N5 million with a trip to South Africa to watch the first World Cup on African soil.
