United To Sign New Players, Next Month
Akwa United FC of Uyo is to sign five new players at an undisclosed amount in February to boost its chances of playing in the premier league next season. Coach Enefiok Uboh told newsmen in Lagos, after the team held Bridge FC to a 2-2 draw recently that the players had commenced training. The Uyo-based team came back from 0-2 in the first half to draw with the home side in the ongoing National Division One League at the Agege Stadium. “The Akwa Ibom State Government is leaving no stone unturned toward ensuring that we gain promotion to the premier league next season. “Five new players who will give us immediate result and have been training with the club will be signed-on in week nine being February 5,’’ Uboh said. The coach, who played the 4-4-2 formation in the first half, said he changed to the 4-3-3 style in the second half, having warned the defenders against their first half mistakes. He expressed optimism that the team would win next weekend’s home match in Uyo. “We are now having 10 points from six matches which is not good enough. We are going to work harder ahead of our next weekend game in Uyo. “We are not ready to lose any home match again. We have to keep winning to keep our promotion dream alive,” Uboh said. The Bridge FC Coach, Patrick Udoh, blamed the result on loss of concentration on the part of his defenders. “Loss of concentration between the defenders and the goalkeeper gave our opponents opportunities to come from behind to draw the game, that is football,” he said. The Bridge FC duo of Fuad Ekelojuoti and James Leke had put the home team in the lead by scoring in the 22nd and 31st minutes. The visitors reduced the tally in the 49th minute through Nnamso Edo while substitute, Johnson Omo, got the equaliser in the 80th minute.
