That Women’s Convention: Foretaste Of God’s Glory
I wonder what a world without virtuous women would look like, without the developmental contributions of such women.
Some proponents of feminism argue that the woman is the second most important creature subsequent to man. And that even in the church setting, a church without women is like a well without water.
Women are being described as human pillar of the church because of their openness, passion and overwhelming zeal (sometimes without knowledge) for the things of God.
Certainly, a virtuous woman in the house adds spice to life as she rises to her feminine obligation, sometime amidst pressure.
Women, no doubt make a significant difference in every walks of life where they are found. The exceptional doggedness, cohesion brilliance and resilience inherent in the virtuous woman as captured by King Solomon the wise in his wisdom literature, Proverbs, lend credence to the fact that a human organization without a virtuous woman needs to create one.
Of course the virtuous woman’s mental fortitude towards God and Christian activities is sacrificially unique, even to a fault. The woman’s purse could be accessed at will when the work of God is at stake.
No doubt, virtuous women are pivotal to the spread of the gospel. Their caring, compassionate and tender disposition endear them to the Holy Spirit and every pastor who wants the right human vessel around him to succeed.
This is why the end of year tri-annual convention of Women of Assemblies of God Nigeria, Rivers District at Silver Valley branch in Port Harcourt could be viewed as an expression of unfeigned devotion to God.
The women who came in their numbers from the thirty-two administrative areas of the District were visibly elated as they worshipped God with songs and their substance. Their testimonies to God’s providence, love, protection, healing and deliverance were indubitably thrilling that one may be tempted to conclude hastily that God is closer and listens more to women. Indeed, the Christian woman is an invaluable asset to the church, the family and society.
If the worship, praise, testimony and offering sessions never elicited the glory of God enough, certainly, the message ministration by the Rivers District Superintendent of Assemblies of God, Nigeria, the Rev. Daddy Dabiyi Ibulubo did.
“This message”, the Rev Ibulubo announced, “is for those who are crushed, the down-trodden and those who are written off”.
Ministering from Luke 7:36-50, the District Superintendent stated that more often the challenge that bedevil humans was how to cope with life’s multi-dimensional confrontations, noting that only an insignificant few could surmount such challenges.
Sounding philosophical, Dr. Ibulubo stated that life’s battle is transient and said “everything that has a beginning, has an end.”
But warned that sin alone could circumvent the opportunity of mitigating the doldrums state sin precipitates.
Said, the Rev. Ibulubo, “Sin is unfriendly, devastating, negative of self, brings depression, destroys relationship, brings shame, cuts down hope and causes death.”
The holiness preacher expatiated on the debilitating effect of sin using the anonymous woman in the text as lucid illustration of limitless grace, the indivisibly whole and eternally- constant love of God as exemplified in Jesus’ discourse with the “sinner woman.”
He remarked the power of genuine encounter with Jesus which according to him, makes a person free from condemnation and access God’s presence.
“The old creation associates with the devil and sin but the new nature is associated with Christ’s righteousness,” the man of God stated, positing that the ugly life of sin pales in the overwhelming grace of God and called on sinners to reciprocate the love-induced sacrifice of God.
