Lions Club Unfolds Plan For Physically-Challenged
The Port Harcourt Metropolitan Lions Club has unfolded plans to provide free medicated eye glass for government approved schools for the handicap.
The Club President, Lion Waite Harry, who gave the indication at the weekend in Port Harcourt, noted that the club will provide 100 pairs of free medicated eye glass, 50 Books, drugs and 50 School desks to the school of the handicap in Port Harcourt.
Comrade Harry explained that part of the Lions Club obligation was to create Eden for the less privilege in the society.
According to him, the Port Harcourt Metropolitan Lions Club has joined God to provide seed for the sower.
He called on other institutions and individuals to partner with the club; to make a difference in the lives of the less privilege in the society.
Earlier, Lion Dadeye Briggs, the immediate past president had said the club was always working towards uplifting humanity, adding that the international body has a rotation of leadership every year, which culminated into the election of a new president.
The District Governor of the Lions Clubs International district 404 Nigeria, Lion (Dame) Joy Warmate, shortly after the presentation remarked that the club had continued to play its leadership role and service to humanity.
She expressed satisfaction with the growth of the club in Nigeria and explained that through the Charter of Metropolitan Lions Club of Port Harcourt, more than eight clubs had come into existence.
The highlight of the presentation saw the emergence of Lion (Comrade) Waite Harry as President, Lion Florence Zabath, as First Vice President, Lion Sado Theophilus as 2nd Vice President, Lion Jemina Amachree as Secretary, Lion Ann Maclayton as Tail twister and Lion Pikibo Soberekon as membership director.
Two new members who were also inducted during the ceremony; include Clarice Azuatalam, a State correspondent of The Nation newspaper.
