Dame Amaechi Tasks Chemical Engineers On Power Sector
Chemical Engineers in the country have been charged to complement government‘s effort in finding lasting solution to the perennial power situation in the country.
Wife of the Rivers State Governor, Dame Judith Amaechi stated this during a visit of members of Nigerian Society of Chemical Engineers to her office at Government House, Port Harcourt.
She said the power situation is quite worrisome and has become inimical to the development of the productive sector.
The governor’s wife stated that power and energy hold the ark in the economic development of a nation, hence concerted effort must be put in place to tackle challenges that bedevil it.
Mrs. Amaechi, represented by the wife of the Secretary to the State Government Mrs. Bariyaa Abe said the engineering profession must justify its professional integrity in the quest to providing lasting solution to the challenge, adding that several manufacturing firms in the country have shut down operation throwing many families to abject poverty, due to unemployment.
According to her, the problem of power and energy is very worrisome because these sectors are detrimental to growth. “The engineering profession should at this point rise to the occasion of providing pragmatic and practicable solution to the problems bedeviling the sector, she said.
Founder of the Empowerment Support Initiative (ESI) said the NGO was willing to partner with other well meaning organisations in developing human capacity of the nation.
Earlier, the wife of President of the Society of Chemical Engineers Conference Committee Mrs. Victoria Wami had commended the Governor’s wife for her people-oriented programme.
She added that the organisation was poised to partner with the ESI to better the lots of families.
