10 Abia Communities Get Free Transformers
No fewer than ten communities in Abia State have benefited from the distribution of electric transformers and accessories worth N35 million under Chief Stanley Ohajuruka’s Constituency project.
The Tide’s source reports that the projects contained in the 2009 National Budget was jointly executive by Federal Ministry of Mines and Power and Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN), Enugu zone.
The benefiting communities drawn from Ikwuano/Umuahia federal constituency include Amakama, Ihiteude Ofeme, Mgboko Nkwoegwu, Isiadu Ibeku, Ihim Ibere, Ndagbo Isiama, Okwulaga Afaraukwu and Ohokobe Ndume, Isingwu Ohuhu and Umuobasi.
Ohajuruka, member representing the area in the Federal House of Representatives, told newsmen that he attracted the projects due to the backwardness of the areas in infrastructural development.
He said that he had the urge to bring about the change that had long eluded his people, noting that he had the desire to set the pace and be a model in the business of politics.
The governorship aspirant under PPA said that the gesture represented what he would replicate to the entire state if elected governor of the state.
He said that equity and fairness were adopted in the selection of the communities that benefited from the largesse, saying: “I am of the view that if equity and fairness are adopted in the distribution of infrastructure, development of all sections of our state will be rapid”.
He pledged to surpass the performances of past leaders of the state if elected governor, adding that his administration would restore the lost glory of the state and give the people cause to rejoice again.
The lawmaker urged the benefiting communities to appreciate the gesture done to them by guarding jealously the transformers and its accessories to forestall their vandalism.
He said that the procurement and installation cost of each transformer as provided in the budget stood at N3.5million each, promising to attract more of such projects to his constituency.

Power Supply Boost: FG Begins Payment Of N185bn Gas Debt
In the bid to revitalise the gas industry and stabilise power generation, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has authorised the settlement of N185 billion in long-standing debts owed to natural gas producers.
The payment, to be executed through a royalty-offset arrangement, is expected to restore confidence among domestic and international gas suppliers who have long expressed concern about persistent indebtedness in the sector.
According to him, settling the debts is crucial to rebuilding trust between the government and gas producers, many of whom have withheld or slowed new investments due to uncertainty over payments.
Ekpo explained that improved financial stability would help revive upstream activity by accelerating exploration and production, ultimately boosting Nigeria’s gas output adding that Increased gas supply would also boost power generation and ease the long-standing electricity shortages that continue to hinder businesses across the country.
The minister noted that these gains were expected to stimulate broader economic growth, as reliable energy underpins industrialisation, job creation and competitiveness.
In his intervention, Coordinating Director of the Decade of Gas Secretariat, Ed Ubong, said the approved plan to clear gas-to-power debts sends a powerful signal of commitment from the President to address structural weaknesses across the value chain.
“This decision underlines the federal government’s determination to clear legacy liabilities and give gas producers the confidence that supplies to power generation will be honoured. It could unlock stalled projects, revive investor interest and rebuild momentum behind Nigeria’s transition to a gas-driven economy,” Ubong said.
