Rotary Unveils N5m Community Project
Rotary Club of Port Harcourt Central has unveiled a N5 million Community development project as part of this years’ charity work.
The plan was hinted by the newly installed President of Port Harcourt Central Lizzy Okosemiema Oba at her installation ceremony in Port Harcourt over the weekend.
Oba said the project is in line with the eight point agenda programme of Rotary International President Ray Klinginsmith.
The fund when fully assessed would cover peace and conflict Resolution, Water and Sanitation, Maternal and Diseases Prevention and Control, Education and Literacy, Economic and Community Development, Polio plus and programmes.
The Port Harcourt Central President therefore appealed to members and other public spirited individuals to contribute towards the success of the projects.
She said this year’s theme of “Building Communities – Bridging continents,” provides the road-map for the body’s activities.
Since Rotarians are usually service-oriented Oba said there was need to touch the lives of the less privileged in society in order to provide better opportunities “for our children, our state, our nation and the world at large.
She thanked the board and members of the Rotary Club of Port Harcourt Central for their support and donations.
The programme witnessed special recognition and awards to the Rivers State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Sampson Parker member of Rivers State House of Assembly Hon. Linda Stewart and Chairman of Opobo/Nkoro Local Government Area, Hon. Maclean Uranta.
Other awardees include Deputy Comptroller of Immigration Johnson Thelma Bassey, Assistant Vice President of First City Monument Bank, Chief Sody Peterside and Senior Hotel Mangoer with state owned Delta Hotels Limited Mr. Iyowuna Peterside amongst other recipient.
