Understanding, Key To Successful Marriage – Ikuru
Rivers State Deputy Governor, Engr Tele Ikuru, has described marriage as a herculean task which requires understanding, focus and dedication on the part of couples to make it successful.
Ikuru made this observation yesterday during the wedding ceremony between former Miss Iyenemi Dabibi and Pastor Tekena Afiesimama at the Chapel of Redemption, Rivers State University of Science and Technology, Port Harcourt.
He urged couples to keep to their marital vows, advising them to discharge their responsibility of providing for their families while the wives should obey their husbands, commending the couple’s parents for the purposeful upbringing given to them.
Earlier, in a homily titled “Blessing of Fearing God”, the resident chaplain of the church, “Very Reverend Godwin Oguh, said that divine blessings await those who fear and reverence God in their dealings, calling on the couple and all believers to imbibe the fear of God to attract his blessings.
At the wedding reception held in the Port Harcourt Club, Chairman of the occasion and Special Adviser to the Governor on Traffic Matters, Engr Ronald Odoyi, appealed to married couples to always spare some time in solitude to reflect on issues affecting marriage, noting that those opportuned to marry are fortunate, saying “many are called but few are chosen.
Highlight of the occasion was the cutting of the wedding cake by the newly weds, assisted by the deputy governor, Engr Tele Ikuru and his wife, Dr Mina Ikuru, the couple’s parents and other dignitaries.

RSG INAUGURATES ARMED FORCES REMEMBRANCE DAY COMMITTEE
The Rivers State Government has inaugurated a Central Planning Committee to organize the celebration of the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day (AFRD) in the State.
The committee was formally inaugurated by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Benibo Anabraba in Port Harcourt, last Thursday.
Dr Anabraba who also serves as Chairman of the Committee
highlighted the State Government’s deep appreciation for the sacrifices of Nigeria’s fallen heroes who laid down their lives for the nation’s peace and unity.
“These heroes have given their lives for the security and peace of our nation and deserve to be celebrated. The Armed Forces Remembrance Day is an opportunity to show our gratitude for their sacrifice,” he said.
Dr. Anabraba further extended recognition to all Security Agencies in the State, emphasizing the importance of the event in appreciating their contributions to national security and sovereignty.
The annual Armed Forces Remembrance Day, observed on January 15 across the country is dedicated to remember Nigeria’s departed soldiers and honouring the nation’s veterans.
