Nigeria Takes Leap Among Nations
Senate President, David Mark has observed that Nigeria has started taking its rightful place in the comity of nations since President Goodluck Jonathan’s assumption.
Mark spoke in Johannesburg yesterday during an interactive session Jonathan had with Nigerians in South Africa.
“We have started taking our pride of place in the comity of nations,” Mark noted, explaining that the President’s international trips were taking the nation from where it was to where it should be.
“Nigeria is not just a country, many are looking up to us to offer leadership on the African continent,” he said, adding that the National Assembly would continue to offer the needed support to the Executive.
Mark urged Nigerians to also strive to always do the right thing for the nation to move in the right direction.
The Tide’s source reports that Nigerians at the forum urged the government to ensure their safety in South Africa following rumours of another round of xenophobic attack, after the World Cup fiesta.
They also asked the government to solve the energy crisis at home, as well as challenges in the education sector among others, to encourage many of them to return home.
Nigeria’s High Commissioner in South Africa, Retired Brig-Gen Buba Marwa, said relations between Nigeria and South Africa were cordial, while the periodic meetings between authorities in both countries had helped to resolve immigration issues.
He said the mission would continue to enhance the welfare of Nigerians in the country.
