NDDC Donates 140 Computers To Rivers Varsity
The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) on Monday, presented 140 workstations and computer accessories to the Rivers State University of Science and Technology (RSUST), Nkpolu, Port Harcourt.
Mr Chibuzor Ugwuoha, the Managing Director of NDDC, who handed over the computers to the institution, said the donation was part of the commission’s efforts to assist in bringing about development in educational materials in the state.
“We cannot give quality education without qualified teachers and instructional materials. The NDDC is also involved in the training of teachers in core science subjects in the nine states of the region to ensure their competence in science and technology,’’ he said.
Ugwuoha commended the Vice-Chancellor of the University for bringing development to the institution.
The NDDC chief called on the management of the university to collaborate with the commission and other development agencies in the region to ensure rapid development of the area.
Prof. Barineme Fakae, the Vice-Chancellor of RSUST, who responded on behalf of the university, thanked the management of NDDC for the gesture.
Fakae said that the management of the institution was particularly happy that Ugwuoha, an alumnus, was the current MD of NDDC, adding, “the university is in the era of rebranding’’.
“Computer education will change business education in the country. It is on record that this university is the first to write examinations online, with programmes developed and used by graduates of the school to monitor examination frauds,’’ he said.
Mr Nicholas Mutu, a member of the House of Representatives, who also spoke at the occasion, called on the Federal Government to release the outstanding N500 billion allocations to the NDDC.
Mutu, who is the Chairman, House Committee on NDDC, said paucity of fund was dragging the commission’s laudable programmes back.
He also called on the multinational companies operating in the region, to complement NDDC’s effort by executing programmes that would enhance development in the region.
