N’Delta Govs, NDDC Meet On Way Forward
In compliance with the presidential directive and in accordance with the law, the governors of the nine Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) states met with the board and management of the commission to reconcile lingering differences that exist in the organization.
Briefing newsmen last night after a close door meeting which lasted several hours at Government House, Port Harcourt, Hon Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi said Article II of the NDDC Act empowers the advisory council made up of the governors of the NDDC states to intervene when the need arises.
According to Governor Amaechi, “in compliance with the law and the presidential directive to look at what the issues and difference are in NDDC, we were able to meet with them and we are to communicate the office of Mr President on the outcome of the meeting.”
He explained that the issues had been properly addressed and it is clear that the board appears very willing to work together with the management to make improvements in the development of the Niger Delta region.
“We believe that the issues have been properly addressed and we think that from today henceforth, there would be improvement,” Governor Amaechi stated, adding that Mr President has to be briefed first before other details of the meeting can be made public.
Meanwhile, eight out of the nine governors of the NDDC states attended the meeting as the governor of Imo State was said to have earlier sought for permission to attend to other pressing issues.
