FG Inaugurates Team On Information Workers Salary
Prof. Dora Akunyili, the Minister of Information and Communications, on Monday in Abuja inaugurated a negotiating team for the enhancement of the salary of workers in the information sector.
Speaking at the inauguration, Akunyili expressed displeasure at the warning strike declared by RATTAWU and the 21-day ultimatum it gave the ministry on the matter.
She said that it was wrong for the union to resort to strike and ultimatum when all available avenues for settlement had not been exhausted.
She said that such a move was uncalled for and could send the wrong signal “at this juncture of the country’s political history”.
‘’Nigeria does not deserve what we are going through,’’ the minister said, adding that the union should not allow itself to be used by enemies of the nation.
The vice president of the union, Comrade Sunday Olugethro, had said that they were only interested in getting the negotiation underway in the interest of the members.
Akunyili later inaugurated the committee which has the Director-General of the Voice of Nigeria (VON), Alhaji Abubakar Jijiwa, as chairman.
Other members of the committee are drawn from RATTAWU, the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) and all the parastatal agencies in the ministry.
