‘NLNG Committed To Fight Against HIV’
The Nigerian Liquefied Natural Gas (NLNG) says it is doing some work to check the ravaging effect of HIV/AIDS in Bonny Island.
The External Relations Manager of the company Miss Siene Alwell Brown said this while declaring open the 2009 NLNG Economic Empowerment and Development Day in Port Harcourt
Miss Brown said that the event which is being organised every year by the company provides it with the opportunity to critically examine its human development initiatives in its host communities.
The External Relations Manager also said that the event would further provide the opportunity for the company to reflect on the economic development programmes for the entire Niger Delta region.
At a media interactive session later on, the project manager Ibanise HIV/AIDS Initiative, Dr. (Mrs) Ibiba Chidi said that the company has set up a support group for people living with HIV/AIDS in the island, while an HIV/AIDS treatment programme has been introduced into the Bonny General Hospital.
According to her, so far about 2000 people have already benefitted from the programme.
