Nigeria’s Leader Off To Saudi Check-up – Official
Nigerian President Umaru Yar’Adua is due to travel to Saudi Arabia late Monday for a medical check-up, his office said.
“The president will call on his personal physicians in Jeddah for follow-up medical checks,” presidential spokesman Olusegun Adeniyi said in a statement.
While an official veil of secrecy is cloaked over Yar’Adua’s condition, he is widely believed to have a history of kidney related disease for which he has previously received hospital treatment in both Germany and Saudi Arabia.
Yar’Adua, 58, was dogged by ill-health even during the election campaign that brought him to power in 2007.
This is his third visit to the Middle East country in as many months, one of which was officially slated as a business trip.
