Why I Contested 2007 Polls –Princewill
Leader of the Action Congress (AC) in Rivers State, Prince Tonye Princewill has said that his desire for better quality of life for the riversman informed his decision to contest the gubernatorial election in 2007.
The AC leader made the assertion Wednesday while speaking at the Tide Roundtable, a weekly personality interview programme of the Rivers State Newspaper Corporation.
Prince Princewill who expressed a burning desire for positive change in the system expressed dissatisfaction that the erstwhile administration of Governor Peter Odili misused resources which accrued to the state during his tenure to the detriment of the common people of Rivers State.
What has Odili achieved with the N1.3 trillion that accrued to the state in the past eight years?, he queried.
The Kalabari prince then noted that his mission in politics was to fight to uproot an unfriendly anti-people system in which the people of the state were held captive by a government which motive was to enrich its cohorts at the expense of the people.
He said that the state is now reaping the fruits of the purification” Governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi passed through in his bid to become the state chief executive in the form of massive implementation of people oriented programmes and projects, but berated the governor for failing to check Odili’s excesses as Speaker, Rivers State House of Assembly.
On the amnesty granted militants from the Niger Delta region, Princewill noted that, in as much as he appreciates the gesture, the move is still half-baked in its intent.
Princewill also justified his resignation from the Federal Government Vision 2020 Sub-committee on Niger Delta, saying if faced with the same scenario “involving killing of my people and destruction of any Niger Delta community, I will take the same step, for me the welfare of the people matter most before any other consideration.
He also called for the immediate implementation of the white paper on the Niger Delta technical committee report as well as comprehensive plans to resolve the Niger Delta problem.
