PH Traffic Congestion Worries Drivers, Residents
Residents of Port Harcourt and commercial vehicle operators have decried the alarming rate of traffic congestion in the city.
Speaking to The Tide on the development, Mr. Samuel Inyang, a commercial driver in Abali Park said the traffic congestion is becoming unbearable adding that they find it difficult to ply the roads and meet up their targets because of the hold-up which last for hours in some instances.
Mrs Ngozi Nwachukwu, a staff of one of the commercial banks in the city expressed dissatisfaction at the situation which forces her to leave the house at about 5.30 am to beat traffic.
“I don’t want to lose my job so I must leave the house very early, by 5.30 in the morning even then sometimes it is difficult to escape the hold up”.
All those who spoke on the issue were unanimous concerning areas such as East West Road connecting Rumuokoro Junction and Aba Road, Mile 3 Junction which they say traffic sometimes is unbearable.
The traffic congestion is making it difficult for residents to go about their daily activities, as it is reported to be worst in the morning and evening when people spend upwards of two hours between Rumuokoro and Mile 3.
Drivers at same point become impatient and to maneuver their way off the traffic thus compounding the situation, in some cases when they are being monitored by the Police.
Often times the drivers are compelled to change their route while the passengers are made to alight at place that are not their destinaltions.
consequently, both drivers and commuters are beckoning on the authorities to remedy the situation, to enhance the economic situation in the state.
