COE Warns Land Encroachers
Encroachers on the parcel of land belonging to Rivers State College of Education (COE), Rumuolumeni Campus have been warned to desist from such act or face the wrath of the law.
The acting provost of the institution, Professor Rosemond Green Osahogulu gave the warning Monday, shortly after conducting management of COE and newsmen round the encroached parcel of land.
According to her, the parcel of land, which measures approximately 65.761 hectres, lying from Eagle Cement junction on both flanks of the road down to Saint Anna Lane, Minikpiti, Rumuolumeni, belongs to the college authority and warned encroachers to stay off the land.
Prof Osahogulu made a passionate appeal to the state government to assist in making funds available for the fencing of the said parcel of land to avoid further encroachment of land developers.
She noted that, it would not be good for the government to demolish what the people have developed with their hard earned resources as a result of illegal encroachment hence the need for the fencing noting that the school belongs to the Rivers State Government.
The COE boss called on the Rumuolumeni community in Obio/Akpor local government area of the state to stop further excavation work and selling of the school property, while individual developer are all advised to ascertain the actual owners of any parcel of land before going into negotiation and development.
Prof Osahogulu disclosed that already, some arrest had been made and some of those people involved had equally been charged to court for the illegal encroachment.
She used the opportunity to call on Rivers’ indigenes to cooperate with Governor Amaechi-led administration move into the nooks and crannies of the state in the interest of all..
She commended the governor for his visionary leadership of taking the bull by the horn to return Rivers State to its Garden City status.
