Army Holds Inter-Brigade Fiesta In PHC
The 82 Division of the Nigerian Army is to hold the 2009 Inter Brigade (Bde) competition at the Brigade, Nigerian Army, Port Harcourt Barracks.
The competition scheduled to commence today will end on Friday. The executive governor of Rivers State, Rt Hon Chibuike Amechi is expected to be the special guest of honour at the event.
A press release, signed by the brigade public Relation Officer, Major Aminu Iliyasu indicates that the competition was put together as part of efforts to actualize the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) vision of meeting contemporary challenges through effective utilization of available resources, high standard of training and discipline in the army.
The release further states that participants for the competition are pulled from various army formations under the 82 division which includes the 2 Brigade Port Harcourt, 13 Brigade Calabar, 34 Artillery Brigade, Owerri and 82 Division Garrison Enugu.
Others are 44 Division Engineers, Awka, 54 Division Signals, Enugu and the 72 Battalion.
These formation would be competing for weapons handling, Map reading, Physical fitness, Drill and Combat, Swimming among others.
The statement further indicates that weapon handling, shooting competition), will take place at the Nigerian Army shooting range, Igwuruta tomorrow.
It advised members of the public especially those living or farming around the area to keep away from the range area in the stated dates for safety purposes.
