RSG Sets Up C’ttee To Host Global Sports Journalists’ Meeting, Oct
The Rivers State Executive Council has approved the constitution of a committee for the hosting of the International Sports Press Association (AIPS) World Executive Committee Meeting and the AIPS Africa meeting billed for Port Harcourt in October, 2020.
According to Nsirim, members of the committee include, National President, Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Honour Sirawoo (chairman); the commissioner for Information and Communications; Special Adviser, Real Madrid Academy, Christopher Green; Special Adviser, School Sports; Chairman, Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, Rivers State, Sopriala Bob-Manuel; Commissioner for Youth Development, Mr Ohia Prince; and Commissioner for Special Duties, Governor’s Office, Emeka Onowu.
Others are, the Commissioner for Culture, Mrs Tonye Oniyinde; Ngowari Kalio; Geru Omereji; Senior Special Assistant to the Rivers State Governor on Protocol, Amb Harold Koko; O. Adele; and the Executive Assistant to the Rivers State Governor on Research and Documentation, Dr Jacob Beredugo, who will serve as secretary.
The commissioner added that the committee will be inaugurated by Governor Nyesom Wike, tomorrow, by 11am at the Government House, Port Harcourt.
The council also directed the commissioner for health to work out a comprehensive plan for the tackling of Coronavirus in the state.

RSG INAUGURATES ARMED FORCES REMEMBRANCE DAY COMMITTEE
The Rivers State Government has inaugurated a Central Planning Committee to organize the celebration of the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day (AFRD) in the State.
The committee was formally inaugurated by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Benibo Anabraba in Port Harcourt, last Thursday.
Dr Anabraba who also serves as Chairman of the Committee
highlighted the State Government’s deep appreciation for the sacrifices of Nigeria’s fallen heroes who laid down their lives for the nation’s peace and unity.
“These heroes have given their lives for the security and peace of our nation and deserve to be celebrated. The Armed Forces Remembrance Day is an opportunity to show our gratitude for their sacrifice,” he said.
Dr. Anabraba further extended recognition to all Security Agencies in the State, emphasizing the importance of the event in appreciating their contributions to national security and sovereignty.
The annual Armed Forces Remembrance Day, observed on January 15 across the country is dedicated to remember Nigeria’s departed soldiers and honouring the nation’s veterans.
