RSHA Confirms Customary Court Of Appeal President
The Rivers State House of Assembly yesterday has approved the confirmation of the Acting President of Customary Court of Appeal, Hon. Justice Christianah Gabriel Nwankwo as the substantive President of the court in the state.
Justice Nwankwo was given approval at the plenary session of the Assembly in Port Harcourt following a letter from the executive Governor of Rivers State, Chief Nyesom Wike, seeking the approval of the Assembly for the confirmation of the Acting President as substantive President of Customary Court of Appeal in the state.
The leader of the Assembly, Hon. Martins Amaewhule, who moved a motion for the approval, described Justice Nwankwo as experienced and vibrant judge, and expressed optimism that she will create positive impact in the court if confirmed as substantive president.
The Chief Whip, Hon. Evan Bipi, who seconded the motion, also described Justice Nwankwo as competent, expressing confidence that she would use her wealth of experience to give the judiciary a face-lift in the state, if confirmed.
Consequently, the Speaker of the Assembly, Dabotorudima Williams, approved the confirmation of the Acting President as the Substantive President of the Customary Court of Appeal following the unanimous vote of the 18 members present.
The Speaker, advised the new President of the Customary Court of Appeal, to justify the confidence reposed in her by Rivers people.
Williams, urged the Customary Court of Appeal’s new boss to maintain the rule of law to ensure that the court remained the last hope of the common man in the state.
Responding to questions at plenary session, Justice Nwanwo, promised to sustain the high standard of the Judiciary as the last hope of the common man in the society.
She assured that, she will discharge her duty without fear or favour, irrespective of the class of persons, saying that, every person is equal before the law, including her and even the Chief Justice of the Federation and the President of Nigeria.

RSG INAUGURATES ARMED FORCES REMEMBRANCE DAY COMMITTEE
The Rivers State Government has inaugurated a Central Planning Committee to organize the celebration of the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day (AFRD) in the State.
The committee was formally inaugurated by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Benibo Anabraba in Port Harcourt, last Thursday.
Dr Anabraba who also serves as Chairman of the Committee
highlighted the State Government’s deep appreciation for the sacrifices of Nigeria’s fallen heroes who laid down their lives for the nation’s peace and unity.
“These heroes have given their lives for the security and peace of our nation and deserve to be celebrated. The Armed Forces Remembrance Day is an opportunity to show our gratitude for their sacrifice,” he said.
Dr. Anabraba further extended recognition to all Security Agencies in the State, emphasizing the importance of the event in appreciating their contributions to national security and sovereignty.
The annual Armed Forces Remembrance Day, observed on January 15 across the country is dedicated to remember Nigeria’s departed soldiers and honouring the nation’s veterans.
