Buhari, NASS Parley, A Good Start’

President of the Senate, Bukola Saraki, yesterday, described the closed-door meeting between President Muhammadu Buhari and the leadership of the National Assembly held on Wednesday night as a welcome development.
Saraki, according to a post on his social media page, yesterday, explained that the meeting signifies a good working relationship between executive and legislative arms of the country.
He described such interactions as “a necessity for national development. Additionally, the meeting demonstrates that the nation is working.”
Buhari met with the leadership of the National Assembly, which included, Saraki; the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, and other principal officers of both chambers.
Also in attendance was, Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo. The meeting lasted for about two hours.
Meanwhile, the Senate resumed plenary around 11:15 am yesterday and went into closed session to discuss critical issues relating to the screening of the 21 ministerial nominees sent to it for confirmation and approval by President Muhammadu Buhari.
The Senate Leader, Ali Ndume, had said last week that the upper chamber would discuss the procedure for the screening after the Senate President, Bukola Saraki, had read out the names contained in the sealed envelope sent to him by Buhari.
A senator, who craved anonymity, told our correspondent shortly before the closed session that the meeting would discuss the details of the closed session Buhari had with the leadership of the National Assembly on Wednesday..
He also said the petition presented to the Senate by the three senators from Rivers State against the nomination of former Governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, would also be discussed.
Meanwhile, some ministerial nominees were sighted at the Senate wing of the National Assembly, yesterday, obviously to familiarise themselves with the senators, and to submit their Curriculum Vitae for necessary scrutiny by the senior federal lawmakers.
Some of those sighted as of 11:30am were former governor, Dr Ogbonnaya Onu, Senator Chris Ngige, Senator Udoma Udo Udoma and a former chairman of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP), Audu Ogbeh.

HoS Hails Fubara Over Provision of Accommodation for Permanent Secretaries

The Head of Service (HoS) of Rivers State, Dr. Mrs. Inyingi S. I. Brown, has commended Governor Sir Siminalayi Fubara, GSSRS, for approving befitting accommodation for Permanent Secretaries in the state.

This commendation was contained in a press release made available to newsmen in Port Harcourt.

According to the Head of Service, Governor Fubara has continued to demonstrate uncommon commitment to the welfare of civil servants in Rivers State, stressing that such gestures underscore his people-oriented leadership style. She urged civil servants across the state to remain supportive of the governor’s administration in order to sustain good governance and effective public service delivery.

Speaking on behalf of the Body of Permanent Secretaries, Dr. Brown congratulated Governor Fubara on the occasion of his 51st birthday, describing him as “a Governor who leads by serving.”

She further praised the governor’s service-driven and people-centred leadership approach, noting that it has significantly contributed to institutional stability and improved efficiency within the state’s public service. Special appreciation was expressed for the approval of a befitting accommodation complex for Permanent Secretaries, which she said reflects the governor’s commitment to staff welfare and enhanced productivity.

As part of activities to mark the governor’s birthday, the Body of Permanent Secretaries announced the sponsorship of 329 Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) forms for indigent students across the state.

A breakdown of the initiative shows that 319 forms will be distributed across the 319 political wards in Rivers State, while five forms are allocated to non-indigenes and five forms to persons living with disabilities.

The Body of Permanent Secretaries wished Governor Fubara continued good health, divine wisdom, and greater accomplishments in his service to the people of Rivers State.
