NDLEA Arrests 132 Drugs Suspects In Bayelsa
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Bayelsa State on Monday said it arrested 132 suspects and seized 66.4 kilogrammes of drugs between January and June, 2013.
The state NDLEA Commander, Frank Hanachor, said this at a news briefing on the activities of the agency to mark the World International Day against Illicit Drugs in Yenagoa
According to him, suspects arrested comprised 106 males and 26 females.
Hanachor gave the statistics of the drugs seizure as heroine 39 grammes, psychotropic substances 366.6 grammes and cannabis sativa 65.99 kg.
Besides the arrests, he said, the command also carried out public enlightenment and drug education in schools as well as general counselling on the dangers of drug addiction and trafficking.
Hanachor, however, expressed displeasure over the indisposition of the state ministries of education and women affairs to accept the agency’s proposals for synergy on the problems of drug addiction and trafficking.
He noted that the drug menace was a social problem that required the collaboration of all stakeholders to tackle.
