NSSF: Sports Secretary Dedicates Victory To Govt
Thrilled by the performance of Lagos State athletes in winning the National Schools’ Sports Festival (NSSF), the Secretary of Schools’ Sports, Adewale Adelekan, has dedicated the victory to the government.
Tidesports source reports that the Games in which 22 states and the Federal Capital Territory participated ended on Thursday in Kano with Lagos taking the first position.
Lagos won 54 gold medals, 61 silver and 57 bronze, totalling 172, with Ondo trailing with 52 gold, 29 silver and 34 bronze medals and hosts Kano, taking 47 gold, 40 silver and 56 bronze medals.
Adelekan said on telephone on Friday in Lagos that “the determination of the athletes and encouragement by the State Government gave them victory at the annual competition.
“We are dedicating the victory to the State Government because of its efforts to develop sports at all levels and getting the youth meaningfully engaged.
“I say kudos to the government because its sports policy is achieving the desired objective and I think the future will be brighter for the state if there will be continuation.’’
He added that none of the athletes sustained injury, adding that many of the students who participated, should be trained to take over from the aging athletes.
Lagos was at the competition which began on October 19 with 185 athletes and 15 officials.
The contingent took part in athletics, badminton, table tennis, chess, scrabble, tennis, wrestling, weightlifting, taekwondo, judo and gymnastics.
