Cleric Harps On Benefits Of Infant Baptism
The Lynn Chancel and Towers mission, Port Harcourt has held its median baptismal service with the baptism of Master Ian Obeffe Iyayi, the grand son of Ven Fyneface Ndubishi Akah, the Executive Chairman of the Universal Basic Education Board, Rivers State.
The occasion which attracted members of the clergy in the Anglican communion, family and friends of the celebrants, also witnessed the celebration of the last supper, an Anglican communion Eucharist ritual.
Speaking at the church service held at the Chancel of Our Lady Lynn and Towers Mission Woji in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, over the weekend, the guest preacher, Ven Dandison I Emmanuel of the Anglican Diocese of Ogoni, said the importance of infant baptism can not be over-emphasised.
Ven Emmanuel who spoke on the topic “Religion and Benefits of Christian Baptism with emphasis on the infant baptism averred that there was nothing wrong in the baptism of the infant, adding that early baptism of a child would add a great significance in his upbringing.
According to him, infant baptism is one of the beliefs of the Anglican liturgies, noting that water plays a major role in human salvation.
“Water plays a significant role in the salvation of mankind, saying that it is not about the quantity of the water but the soul of the individual that matters” When you baptize the child, it will guide him or her while growing. The argument that the child can deviate from the way or can’t make decisions does not hold water. What about adults who baptise and abscond from their faith”, he stated
The Anglican pastor urged parents to ensure that they train up their children in the ways of the Lord so that when they grow up, they will not depart from such ways.
Also speaking, the Executive Chairman of Rivers State Universal Basic Education Board, Ven Fyneface Ndubishi Akah, said he was elated to baptise his grand son because through the baptism, the child has been initiated into the membership and family of Christ.
