Skills Acquisition: NDE Targets 1,000 In Rivers
The National Directorate of Employment (NDE) in Rivers State has announced plans to train not fewer than a thousand persons on agriculture and vocational skills.
State Coordinator of NDE in Rivers State Felix Barisi Kpegasin while briefing newsmen on Wednesday in Port Harcourt explained that the scheme is expected to commence later this month and will cover the 23Local Government Areas.
He noted that the programmes are in six categories ranging from the Graduate Attachment Programme(GAP), Environmental Beautification, Adaptive Farming scheme and the Basic National Open Apprenticeship scheme, Advance National Open Apprenticeship and Cosmetology training.
Kpegasin stated that the programmes are part of the federal government interventionist to reduce the unemployment challenge and arm young people with skills for self sustenance.
On the graduate attachment programmes he disclosed that about 40 persons are expected to benefit, as 110 persons are to be trained in advanced apprenticeship, and 460 for basic and 400 persons for cosmetology.
“We want to use this medium to invite the general public and interested persons who meet the criteria to avail themselves of the opportunity provided by the is federal government initiative” Kpegasin announced.
He enjoined the various local government chairmen to provide support to the programme, especially on the basic apprenticeship scheme as each local government area is expected to provide 20 candidates each.
