DG Lauds Ayade’s Giant Strides In Electricity Sub-Sector
The Director General Cross River State Electrification Agency, Dr. Jake Otu Enyia, has lauded the efforts of Sen. Prof. Ben Ayade in the Electricity Sub-sector.
Dr Jake Enyia highlighted some of the modest achievements of Governor Ayade’s administration in the electricity sub-sector to include; procurement of 189 electricity distribution transformers at the cost of six hundred and fifty million Naira, (N650,000,000.00) carried out a survey of status of electricity infrastructure in the 18 local government areas of the state.
He maintained that the governor had commissioned some abandoned electrification projects across the state, direct intervention to more than 30 communities in provision of electricity materials worth thirty million Naira (N30,000,000.00), enhanced relationship and constant monitoring of activities of the Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company (PHEDC) in Cross River State which has necessitated the radical improvement in power supply in the state.
The Director General added that procurement processes were on-going for the provision of electricity in more than 400 communities across the State at the cost of eight point five billion Naira (N8.5bn). This he said, was in line with the Cross River State Executive Council’s approval of 100 percent electricity coverage in Cross River State.
Speaking earlier during the visit, the State Co-ordinator of NYSC, Mr. Ayodele Adegoke stated that the essence of the visit was to familiarise with relevant stakeholders in the State and also request for an electricity distribution transformer for the State NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp at Obubra which has been in darkness for decades.
He appealed to the director general to help facilitate the provision of light at the orientation camp as this will give the corps members a sense of belonging and also stem criminal activities in the area. The DG assured him that he would send his team of engineers to carry out a survey to ascertain the capacity of transformer required and communicate same to the governor.
