PH Airport Users Berate Minister Over Unfulfilled Promises …Bemoan Poor Infrastructure At Airport
Following the promise made by the Minister of State for aviation, Senator Hadi Sirika in his last visit to Port Harcourt Airport, that the international wing of the airport will be commissioned in July 2018, users of the airport have expressed disappointment that such promise could not be fulfilled as much is still left undone after July.
The stakeholders have also expressed sadness that the arrival terminal building project at the domestic wing has continually been delayed, inspite of all the promises made by Federal Government on the completion and commissioning.
Reacting on the issue while interacting with The Tide at the airport, an independent airline ticketer, Mr Good Friday Worlu, said projects at the Port Harcourt Airport have suffered so much available delays.
According to him, the airport being one of the four major international airports has suffered neglect in terms of project delivery compared to other major airports in the country.
“I do not understand why the minister of state for aviation, Hadi Sirika, will assure that the International Wing will be commissioned last July, when infact many things are yet to be done, which might take the next six months.
“They should always access work done and what is yet to be done, critically, before giving hope to the public, so that they will not end up giving unrealistic promises”, he said.
Also reacting on the issue, the manager of Coscharis Motors, the airport unit, Mrs Clara Moodo said the runway for taxing of flights that will land at the international wing is yet to be linked.
She said before commissioning will take place that everything ought to be ready, but regretted that the domestic arrival terminal building construction work is still being sluggishly constructed, after several promises of completion before May, 2018.
It would be recalled that Sirika during his inspection of the project in January this year, said the international wing terminal building will be commissioned last July. He told journalists that the work had gone above 80 percent completion.
