NEMA Donates Relief Materials To Fire Victims
The National Emergency Management Authority, NEMA, has donated some relief materials to victims of fire disaster in Mbodo Aluu Community in Ikwerre local government area of Rivers State.
The Assistant Zonal Director of NEMA South South, Tepiko Godwin who presented the relief materials to the community through the Rivers State Ministry of Special Duties, said the gesture was to alleviate the plight of victims of the fire disaster that ravaged the community.
The NEMA Director pledged the continuous support of the authority towards quick response to emergency management in the state.
In her response, the Permanent Secretary, Rivers State Ministry of Special Duties, Ibaniba Brigg-Iti thanked NEMA for the relief materials and urged the Federal Government to continue to support the state in emergency response.
The permanent secretary also assured the preparedness of the State government in addressing issues of emergency outbreaks such as fire disasters and other natural disasters. She said the Ministry of Special Duties has put in place modalities, training, capacity development and other strategic plans to address emergency management.
She urged the community representatives to ensure that the donated materials get to the victims of the fire disaster.
A community leader who received the relief items on behalf of the victims of the fire disaster, Barr. Okachi Ordu, thanked NEMA and the State government over the gesture, and assured that the materials would get to the target beneficiaries accordingly.
The items donated include 100 bundles of roofing sheets, detergents, beverages, mattresses, indomic noodles, plastic buckets, wrappers among others.
It could be recalled that Mbodo Aluu Community was ravaged by a fire disaster last January which rendered many people homeless.
