Marketers Hint Of Looming Fuel Scarcity Over Indebtedness
The Major oil Marketers
Association of Nigeria (MOMAN) has alerted that the inability of the Federal Government to pay its members what it owes them for importing fuel into the country could cause current fuel scarcity to linger in the country.
The association in its letter to the Minister of Finance and Co-ordinating Minister of the Economy, Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, said in spite of previous promises from the government to reimburse its members the under Recovery due to them, as verified by the Petroleum Products Pricing Regulatory Agency (PPPRA), the government had still not fulfilled its agreement.
The letter which was signed by MOMAN Executive Secretary, Mr Thomas Olawore, said government empathized with the marketers and committed to full restitution provided there was verification by PPPRA as well as assured full reimbursement with accruing interest due to late payment and forex differential within 30 days of the meeting and noted that government had till date continued to fail in fulfilling its promises.
“Furthermore, you committed to immediately issuing Sovereign Debt Notes (SDNs) for the outstanding Under Recovery with full payments or before the 28th of April, 2015,” it said, but noted that, regrettably despite the above commitment and assurances, to date the association has only received N30bn out of N100bn.
In FOREX differential claims, only N34bn has been received in core subsidy, payment upto the second quarter of 2014, it also said.
According to the letter, only three out of six MOMAN companies received payment for forex differentials, adding that no MOMAN or DAPPMA depot and Petroleum Product Marketing Association has been paid interest charges on dela yed payment.
