Arewa Leader Tasks Jonathan On Terrorism
Chairman of Arewa
Consultative Forum, South-South/South-East, Alhaji Musa Saidu, has called on the Federal Government to evolve alternative measures to check insurgency in the Northern part of the country.
Alhaji Saidu who made the call during a chat with newsmen in Port Harcourt recently enjoined all Nigerians to support the fight against terrorism saying, “ anybody blaming President Jonathan is doing so politically. We should all join hands to check insecurity.”
On how to curb the insurgency, Alhaji Saidu submitted, “the natives have a big role to play because most of them know these people. So the youths and natives must provide security and intelligence for security operatives. “The government should also provide employment and tackle poverty to check insurgency,” said Saidu.
He dismissed claims that Northerners were behind terrorism, “ as far as I’am concerned, anybody supporting terrorism is not a muslim. It is not Islamic to kill and shed blood.”
Saidu while commenting on the recent call by South-South members at the ongoing National Conference to increase the derivation percentage to 18 per cent and above said though the call is welcome, resources need to be utilised for the betterment of the Niger Delta.
He explained that the initial opposition raised by Northern delegates against the increment may not be disconnected from the huge mismanagement of funds by Niger Delta leaders.
“I do not blame the Northern delegates for opposing the call. The monies appropriated to the South-South over the years have not been well utilised. So many interventionist agencies have been established but these have all failed,” he said
