Abia Lauds NAN For Promoting National Unity
The Abia State
Government last Friday in Umuahia commended the management of News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) for promoting national unity and integration through its news services.
The Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Chief Eze Chikamnayo, made the commendation when he visited the agency’s new office complex at the new government layout in Umuahia.
Chikamnayo said the agency had proved to be the best media organisation in the country.
He described the agency as a responsible, detribalised and patriotic media organisation with highly proficient professionals in information gathering and dissemination.
“NAN reports dwell on those things which unite, rather than divide the country. Outside Nigeria, most reputable media agencies quote NAN reports because of their factuality and reliability,’’ the commissioner said.
He said it would be irrational for any Nigerian to think of dividing the country at a time other nations were fostering greater socio-economic integration.
“Nigeria cannot disintegrate. The unity of the country is not negotiable,’’ Chikamnayo said.
The commissioner expressed the state government’s readiness to partner with the agency in order to collectively contribute to the nation’s unity and progress.
He highlighted the achievements of Gov. Theodore Orji in infrastructure development in the state.
“We have some examples in the construction of an e-library, new markets, public service secretariat, roads and other projects,’’ Chikamnayo said.
Earlier, the Abia State Correspondent of NAN, Mr Sam Oditah, had expressed delight at the commissioner’s visit, saying it was the first of its kind by any Abia government official.
Oditah appealed to the state government to assist the agency by constructing the road leading to the NAN office complex.
“We commend the governor for creating the enabling environment for growth and development, through the protection of lives and property in the state,’’ he said.
