Truck Driver, Assistants Arrested For Beating VIO
A tipper lorry driver and two of his assistants have been arrested by officials of the Kaduna State Vehicle Inspection Office (VIO), for allegedly beating up one of the officials who was on lawful duty.
Our correspondent gathered that the official, Sam Ayuba, a Road Traffic Assistant, was allegedly assaulted by the three suspects, who were arrested for traffic violation, along Ali Akilu roundabout, recently in Kaduna.
According to Bashir Aliyu, the Public Relations Officer of the agency, Ayuba was mandated to convey the suspects to the VIO Headquarters after their arrest.
The spokesman alleged that instead of the suspects driving to the head office, they took a different route, beat up the official and tore his uniform.
Aliyu said the affected official was rescued by soldiers, adding that the three suspects would be prosecuted as soon as investigation was concluded.
One of the suspects (name withheld), however, denied the claim of any traffic violation, saying all the vehicle documents were intact.
