N70bn Rice Project Will Create 12,000 Jobs – Governor
The Kwara State government’s joint venture rice project with Spanish company Valsolar, is expected to launch in December.
The project which is estimated to cost N70 billion will provide jobs for 12,000, according to the Kwara State Governor, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed.
The government is contributing 20,000 hectares of land to the project which is expected to produce 40,000 tonnes of rice initially for local and export markets.
The N70 billion to be invested in the project is expected to come from the Spanish company, according to the terms of the Memorandum of Understanding.
“I am particularly pleased that this project will be generating 12,000 jobs across the value chain as well as substantially growing the state’s economy. Our farmers will also benefit from the technology transfer component of the project. No doubt, this huge project is one of several envisaged under the Kwara State Agricultural Modernisation Plan (KAMP) the implementation of which is soon to commence”, the governor said.
