Delta Warns Property Owners In GRAs
The Delta State Government has warned property owners in the government reserved areas of the state of the dangers in converting residential buildings for commercial purposes.
The state Commissioner for Lands, Survey and Urban Development, gave Mr Patrick Ferife the warning in Asaba recently in an interview with newsmen.
Ferife told newsmen that the warning became necessary to avert turning the areas into slumps.
He advised property owners in the areas to as a matter of urgency obtain their duly signed Certificate of Occupancy (C of O) from the ministry as an indication of their interest to retain their property.
He also said that those allocated land in the state in the past two years, who had not developed the plots were at the risk of forfeiting their plot to the state government.
The commissioner added that allottees should comply with government directives on development of the plots to avoid their forfeiture.
He further said that the ministry would soon embark on the demolition of all structures, which did not conform with approved plans.
The commissioner said that the ministry had completed the enumeration of property in Asaba metropolis, using the Land Information System (LIS), pointing out that the team would soon move to Warri for the same purpose.
He appealed to those, whose houses and property were not enumerated in Asaba to come to the headquarters of the ministry for registration and capturing of their property.
The LIS was expected to reduce the time of land registration, processing and issuance of C of O and also generate automatic statistics that would form a base map for government planning and research.
