Journalists Assure Commissioner Of Good Relationship
Journalists in Edo State have assured Mr Louis Odion, the new Commissioner for Information, of good working relationship.
Mr Friday Obanor, the Edo Council Chairman of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), gave the assurance in Benin when the commissioner held an interactive session with members of the union.
Obanor said journalists would co-operate with the commissioner to make his work easier by adequately covering government activities.
He, however, appealed to the commissioner to use his position to assist the council in fencing the Press Centre complex.
The chairman said there was security threat at the centre because the vast complex was not fenced.
He recalled that armed robbers recently invaded the centre and dispossessed a vendor of a huge amount of money.
The chairman said the situation could be checked if security was beefed up around the complex.
He also urged the commissioner to reintroduce the quarterly press briefing, a platform to give details of government’s performance.
Responding, the commissioner said he was aware that the task ahead was enormous and solicited the support of journalists.
He assured the union that something would be done to solve the security problems at the Press Centre. “I will maintain an open-door policy,” the commissioner promised.
