Taribo Advocates Better Deal For Legionaires
A member of the Federal Character Commission, Abuja, Chief (Ambassador) S.M.K. Taribo, has advocated better deal for ex-servicemen in the country.
Chief Taribo, made the call during this year’s Armed Forces Remembrance Day celebration emblem launch at Ogu, headquarters of Ogu/Bolo local government area of Rivers State last Thursday.
According to him, the sacrifice they made to liberate this country could not be easily forgotten, stressing that it is because of the love they had for their father land.
He noted that all sectors of government should give priority attention to the legionaires and the families of the fallen heroes and heroines for their valuable contributions to keep Nigeria one, and enjoined all to contribute and support them through the launching of the emblem and otherwise.
In his speech, the Ogu/Bolo Local Government Council Chairman, Hon Lawrence Abiebiari, commended the doggedness and concerted effort of the legionaires in fighting to liberate Nigeria and assured them of the council’s support to their requests.
Hon Abiebiari, who was represented by the secretary, Hon Minaseichinbo Fiberesima, thanked the Federal Government for setting aside every January 15, for the commemoration of the fallen heroes and the legionaires, and also thanked the chiefs and people of the area for their attendance.
Earlier, the chairman of the Nigerian Legion, Ogu / Bolo Local Government Chapter, Lt Col Emmanuel Aguru (Rtd), said the emblem launching marks the beginning of the activities for the 2010 Armed Forces Remembrance Day celebration and thanked all for making the ceremony a huge success.
The occasion was attended by chiefs and dignitaries from all walks of life.
