Lady Kabbies President Decries Police, Touts Harassment
The president of Lady Kabbies, in Rivers state, Evangelist Blessing Adeoye has decried the incessant harassment by the police and touts on law members.
Speaking with The Tide in Port Harcourt on Monday, Evangelist Adeoye said there were complains by some of her members that the police and touts had been extorting money and also bars them from operating in certain areas, calling on the authorities to enlighten their members as the lady Kabbies are operating a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) under the Governor’s wife pet-programme of Empowerment Support Initiative (ESI).
According to her, the scheme is Mrs. Amaechi’s empowerment programme for the women, adding that they are not operating as illegal transporters.
She said they are operating as other transporters to ease transport difficulties in the state, and thanked the Governor, Rt. Hon. Chubuike Rotimi Amaechi and his wife, Dame Judith Amaechi for the empowerment, saying that they are very happy and grateful for the gesture as it has assisted in empowering the livelihood of the beneficiaries in the state.
The Lady Kabby President however, disclosed that three Lady Kabbies are facing a disciplinary committee for violating the rules and regulations of the ESI Lady Kabbies for giving their cabs to men to drive, adding that the action would serve as a deterrent for others, warning that anybody caught in that act would have her car impounded until she pays a stipulated fine.
A total of 53 Lady Kabbies are currently operating in Port Harcourt, she added.
