NDDC Boss Tasks Contractors On Quality Job Delivery
The Acting Managing Director/ Chief Executive Officer of Niger Delta Development Commission, Mrs Osato Iyaseve Arenyenka has called on contractors handling projects for the commission to ensure quality delivery in all the stakeholders states.
Mrs Arenyenka, who made the call recently in Port Harcourt during a meeting with contractors said the essence of the meeting was also to rub minds on how best the new leadership of the commission and contractors can improve the process for the implementation and delivery of projects.
According to her, quality work will improve the living conditions of the people of the area, adding that it was a top priority of the commission.
While assuring the payment of performing contractors upon the reconstitution of the Board, she said outstanding interim payment certificates (ICPs) are being compiled.
She also called on contractors to support president Jonathan’s transformation agenda, as well as his other plans to transform the commission.
Arenyenka, stressed that there would be no payment for the shoddy jobs, and urged the contractors to deliver projects that meet specifications.
“We have discovered that some of our projects are failing, especially road projects . A road that was constructed this year now has potholes. I’ve called you here to find out what the problem is,” she said.
She was of the view that some contractors were not obeying job specifications, stressing that her administration wants to right all wrongs in the commission especially in the area of project delivery.
Contractors have earlieer listed payment of IPCs, projects design, community issues and bureaucratic bottle necks as part of the challenges facing them.
To all those, the NDDC Head, has re-assured them of the commission’s preparedness to address the issues raised to enable the incoming Board to perform effectively.

Kenyan Runners Dominate Berlin Marathons
Kenya made it a clean sweep at the Berlin Marathon with Sabastian Sawe winning the men’s race and Rosemary Wanjiru triumphing in the women’s.
Sawe finished in two hours, two minutes and 16 seconds to make it three wins in his first three marathons.
The 30-year-old, who was victorious at this year’s London Marathon, set a sizzling pace as he left the field behind and ran much of the race surrounded only by his pacesetters.
Japan’s Akasaki Akira came second after a powerful latter half of the race, finishing almost four minutes behind Sawe, while Ethiopia’s Chimdessa Debele followed in third.
“I did my best and I am happy for this performance,” said Sawe.
“I am so happy for this year. I felt well but you cannot change the weather. Next year will be better.”
Sawe had Kelvin Kiptum’s 2023 world record of 2:00:35 in his sights when he reached halfway in 1:00:12, but faded towards the end.
In the women’s race, Wanjiru sped away from the lead pack after 25 kilometers before finishing in 2:21:05.
Ethiopia’s Dera Dida followed three seconds behind Wanjiru, with Azmera Gebru, also of Ethiopia, coming third in 2:21:29.
Wanjiru’s time was 12 minutes slower than compatriot Ruth Chepng’etich’s world record of 2:09:56, which she set in Chicago in 2024.
