PH Residents Laud RSG Over Abuloma/Woji Road
An economist, Dr. Julius
Magnus has said that the completion of the Abuloma-Woji road project by the Rivers State government would soon open up business activities in the area.
Magnus who spoke to The Tide recently in a telephone interview in Port Harcourt said before now nobody thought that there was the possibility of opening up that area to business activities.
He opined that the governor had business development of the area in mind by expediting action on the road.
According to him, it was necessary for the government to check unnecessary crowding in the area by business people in order not to replicate what was going on on the Port Harcourt –Aba Expressway.
When The Tide visited the area and spoke with some of the residents, they also expressed happiness over the development.
For Maxi Uchenna who lives at Woji end of the road “the era of driving up to artillery and taking a detour was over.”
He explained that some months ago he had plans of relocating due to the traffic difficulties he faced over the years.
Uchenna said he has since shelved the idea of relocating even before the road was formally commissioned by the state governor.
Another respondents who spoke to The Tide while commending the state governor for completing the road however warned landlords not to use the opportunity to increase house rents.
He expressed the fear that some unscrupulous landlords could use the opportunity of the good work the Wike government has done to increase house and shop rents.
It would be recalled that the state government commissioned the Abuloma-Woji road last week that was worth N13.6 billion.
The project also has a bridge of about 207.5 metres long and 20 metres road width with total of 63 beams.
The road is one of the major uncompleted road projects that was inherited by the present administration from former governor Chibuike Amaechi’s administration.
Speaking at the commissioning last week, Governor Nyesom Wike described the road as very significant, noting that the project was designed rightly to reduce traffic congestion on the PH –Aba Expressway.
