Navy Impounds Over 100 Wooden Boats In Rivers
In a bid to curb the menace of illegal oil bunkering in States in Niger Delta Region, the Nigerian Navy Ship, Pathfinder, has said its operatives impounded 100 wooden boats from Rivers State Communities.
The Operative said the boats were seized within a period of sixteen months from suspects.
Outgoing Commander, NNS Pathfinder, Commodore Suleman Ibrahim, disclosed this during an interactive session with newsmen shortly after a send-forth parade in his honour in Port Harcourt.
He also said 150 suspects in connection with illegal oil bunkering were arrested by the operatives within the period.
“We arrested hundreds of large wooden boats. We also arrested over 150 persons for illegal oil bunkering.
“The arrest we made is quite huge and the arrested suspects were handed over to the relevant agencies for prosecutions.
“We have taken some arrested suspects to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps”, Ibrahim said.
He thanked the commanders and Heads of sister security agencies for the synergy the base enjoyed which, he said, was responsible for the relative peace being enjoyed in Rivers State.
