The monarch called on the government for support through the recently inaugurated flood and erosion control Directorate, noting that all the projects carried out by the community were funded from the community’s meager savings.
Agbura Community is a suburb of Yenagoa, the Bayesa State capital, sharing land borders with Otuokpoti Community of Ogbia Local Government Area of the state.
The Tide gathered that the Bayelsa State Government, pursuant of its environmental safety and protection policies recently inaugurated a flood and erosion control Directorate to work out modalities to checkmate floods and erosion in the state.
Projects executed by the Agbura Community to mitigate the impact of the impending 2023 floods include, shore embarkment and internal roads, and height upliftment works.
Also speaking, women leader of the community, Chief Love Theophilus, said the community had supported all successive administrations in the State, hence Agbura deserved government assistance like every other community in the state.
She noted that the self-help projects undertaken by the community became even more necessary as the nation’s meteorological agencies have raised the alarm on impending 2023 floods, adding that the agencies warned that the impending floods would be as devastating as previous ones.
