Monarch Urges FG To Upgrade Opobo Seaport To Modern Standard
A front line traditional ruler and Chairman, Rivers State Traditional Rulers Council, King Dandeson Douglas, has urged the Federal Government to revamp and upgrade Opobo Port to a modern sea port.
The monarch, who is the Amanyanabo of Opobo Kingdom said the revitalisation of the old Opobo Port would open up business activities in the state and beyond.
Jaja stated this when the Eastern Ports Police Commissioner, Mrs Evelyn Peterside, visited him, recently.
He insisted that the revamping of the seaport would create jobs and reduce crimes in the region.
The traditional ruler commended the achievements recorded by the police commissioner, especially in the area of reducing crime and criminality in the Eastern Ports.
Earlier, the Police Commissioner said she was on a visit to the traditional ruler to intimate him of the challenges facing her posting to the state.
She said the Eastern Ports Police command comprised of Onne, calabar, Warri and Rivers Port Complex.
The commissioner stated that the region, being the headquarters of oil and gas operation in the country, deserve the best in terms of maritime business in the country.
He appealed for peace and enabling environments to enhance smooth maritime operations in the region.
